The Essick Air H12-400 Evaporative Console Humidifier is a midsize, whole house humidifier featuring a contemporary style. Its 5 gallon water tank is easily and neatly refilled via an included hose. As the name implies, it uses an evaporative system producing unheated, evaporative water thereby requiring less energy than steam or warm mist units and eliminating white dust spray and buildup. To clean and service, simply lift the power unit off the top of the humidifier. The evaporative wick filters out mineral deposits and just lifts right out for easy replacing.
The only complaint seems to be with the noise, which is to be expected with an evaporative/fan-driven humidifier, and the power chassis, which the manufacturer will replace at no charge within the 1-year warranty. It can be a lengthy and slow process, but user reviews indicate that it’s worth it as the humidifier provides relief from symptoms of itchy eyes, scratchy throat, dry skin, and chapped lips as well as prevents furniture and plants from becoming overly dry and reduces static electricity which protects computers and other electronics.
One thing to keep in mind whenever using a humidifier is the type of tap water you have. Almost all humidifiers are tap water safe; however, the harder your tap water, the more white-dust buildup you will get in the room as well as inside the humidifier. If this happens, simply switch to filtered or distilled water.
