The Honeywell HCM-6009 QuietCare Console Humidifier features an air washing pre-filter that helps trap pollen, dirt, and dust before it enters the main filter; an antimicrobial-treated filter that helps prevent the growth and migration of bacteria, mold, algae, and fungus on the filter; and a Protec cleaning cartridge that helps reduce mineral build-up. This all contributes to a fresher, cleaner mist and extends the filter life.

Unlike most humidifiers, this one is backed by a 3-year warranty. Additionally, the water tank is actually two separate containers, each with a handle, making them much more manageable and easy to fill.

There are a couple of things to keep in mind if you are considering purchasing this humidifier. For one, the mist is expelled out the side of the unit instead of the top as is more typical of a humidifier. Second, due to the fan, it’s a little louder than other humidifiers, but if it seems abnormally loud, check to ensure that the fan unit was set on properly and that the “noise” isn’t just vibration from a poorly installed fan. Finally, it does not include a digital hygrostat, as more expensive models, do; however, it has a humidity dial so that it will cycle on and off as the humidity level changes. So if you have a specific humidity goal in mind, you can purchase a reliable hygrostat for $7 or $8. Like most evaporator humidifiers, this one uses a fan to blow air through a filter to produce a cool mist. As a result, the filter will need periodic replacing. So to extend the life of your filter, try this: every time you fill the tanks, pop the top of the unit and flip the filter over. As water is turned into mist and expelled from the machine, the water level obviously drops, which then exposes the top edge of the filter to air thus causing it to dry out. With time, it gets crusty with mineral buildup and no longer soaks up water as effectively, so by flipping the filter with every refill, it stays moist and functional and will, therefore, work better and last longer.
