  • Suitable for rooms up to 2500 square feet

Full List

The Essick Air H12-400 Evaporative Console Humidifier is a whole house humidifier for up to 2500 square feet! Its 5 gallon water tank is easily and neatly refilled via an included hose. As the name implies, it uses an evaporative system producing unheated, evaporative water thereby requiring less energy than steam or warm mist units and eliminating white dust spray and buildup. To clean and service, simply lift the power unit off the top of the humidifier. The evaporative wick filters out mineral deposits and just lifts right out for easy replacing.

The only complaint seems to be with the noise, which is to be expected with an evaporative/fan-driven humidifier, and the power chassis, which the manufacturer will replace at no charge within the 1-year warranty. It can be a lengthy and slow process, but user reviews indicate that it’s worth it as the humidifier provides relief from symptoms of itchy eyes, scratchy throat, dry skin, and chapped lips as well as prevents furniture and plants from becoming overly dry and reduces static electricity which protects computers and other electronics.

One thing to keep in mind whenever using a humidifier is the type of tap water you have. Almost all humidifiers are tap water safe; however, the harder your tap water, the more white-dust buildup you will get in the room as well as inside the humidifier. If this happens, simply switch to filtered or distilled water.

Don’t let the 5.5 gallon water tank scare you off; this humidifier is actually equipped with two 2.75 gallon water bottles that easily fill using the included refill hose. And you know when it needs refilling thanks to the separate left and right “refill bottle” indicators. It uses replaceable two-stage AirCare filters to help remove airborne pollutants, giving you a much cleaner mist. Another feature that sets this humidifier apart from its competitors is the fact that it carries a two-year warranty on the motor and a one-year warranty on all other components, except for the wicks.

The only complaint seems to be with the noise, which is to be expected with an evaporative/fan-driven humidifier, and the manufacturer customer service. It can be a lengthy, slow, and frustrating process, but user reviews indicate that it’s worth it as the humidifier meets humidity demands thus providing relief from symptoms of itchy eyes, scratchy throat, dry skin, and chapped lips as well as prevents furniture and plants from becoming overly dry and reduces static electricity which protects computers and other electronics.

  • Up to 36 hours running time

The Bionaire BCM658-U Cool Mist Tower Humidifier features a permanent filter, which will save you money as it does not need regular replacement.  An AccuSet digital humidistat multifunctional display will automatically monitor and maintain your ideal humidity and even displays the room’s humidity level when the humidifier is off; microban antimicrobial protection is infused into the housing and filter of the humidifier to help prevent the growth of bacteria; and, finally, the permanent filter is treated with Arm & Hammer odor-eliminating technology for extra freshness.

The most common complaint is that the tank is difficult to fill. Due to its height, it cannot be filled in a standard kitchen sink. The cap is on the bottom, so the water tank must be turned upside down to fill and, because of the curved design on top, it won’t stand on its own. However, the built-in digital humidistat is a definite bonus. You are able to set your desired humidity level and the unit then automatically cycles off once it is reached. Additionally, once that occurs, you can set the fan to the lowest setting and it will maintain the level you have chosen with minimal energy and noise.

Almost all humidifiers are tap water safe; however, the harder your tap water, the more white-dust buildup you will get in the room as well as inside the humidifier. The Air-O-Swiss 7144 Ultrasonic Humidifier uses high-frequency vibrations to generate a microfine mist, preventing leaking and/or condensation on the unit. To avoid steam burn, you choose the pre-heating function and the mist then exits the machine at a pleasant 104 degrees Fahrenheit. A replaceable demineralization cartridge (Ag+ Ionic Silver Technology) ensures water mist without lime scale or mineral residues and a quad-band microbial protection system prevents microbial growth in the water base. To completely eliminate white dust buildup, though, it’s recommended to use reverse osmosis drinking water, which also has the added benefit of extending the life of the demineralization cartridge.

Most importantly, the Air-O-Swiss 7144 humidifier is equipped with ITC (Intelligent Temperature Compensation) technology that monitors the temperature to automatically adjust output when conditions change. In other words, this unit measures the humidity and turns on and off based on your chosen preset user selectable setting much like a thermostat does for heating and cooling.

One negative aspect to this unit is that the water tank is undersized and awkward to handle. Once removed, the odd shape makes it difficult to refill and prevent tipping. Additionally, it is nearly impossible to remove the tank without dripping water all over the floor because while installed in the unit, it actually sits in a pool of water; so just be sure to immediately wipe the base of the tank.

Although the tank is difficult to fill, it is equipped with a handle for easy carrying and a full tank will provide up to two night’s sleep free of irritating throat, nose, and skin conditions. Combined with it’s sleek, modern look and it’s state-of-the-art technology, the Air-O-Swiss 7144 Ultrasonic Humidifier is the perfect choice for someone serious about a good night’s sleep and maintaining a high quality of life.
